A Game for Getting to Know People

by Terrence on Mar.29, 2009, under Life

The Game

Take turns asking and answering the questions below. There are no exact rules. The idea is to have fun mostly with just the conversation. You can modify questions for younger children. You can introduce drawing or painting, singing or charades. You could throw a bean bag back and forth each time you do a new question? You can do this standing, sitting, or walking. It can be played inside, outside or over the phone. It’s not a competitive game. It’s a game of fun, warmth, and relationship building.

Print out the questions below. You can either take turns asking questions you like from the list or you can randomly choose numbers, whatever works for you. If other questions follow naturally, all the better. Let the conversation flow! Let us know how you modify the game for more fun!

Pairing Down

by on Aug.07, 2008, under Uncategorized

I never realised how hard it was to pair down. I have so much stuff, I want to reduce the amount that I have while still retaining all of the current functional items that I have.

So let’s tackle it in stages.

Stage 1: Living Area

Stage 2: Kichen

Stage 3 Bedroom

Stage 4 Bathroom

Stage 5: Laundry Room/Closet

That covers my whole place. If I can tackle those one by one I should be in good shape.

Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x is a piece of crap!

by on Jul.16, 2008, under Uncategorized

Ok, I’ve currently tried to roll out this product at my company. We have around 15K endpoints that need this software package on them. I will outline all of the problems that we’ve had. Apparently they want the consumer to diagnose and debug the problems for them. My response was, we’ll pull your product if you don’t get it fixed.

I’m curious as to how many clients they’ve lost because of this product. I’m sure it’s quite a few. The thing is that they get a company into a contract agreement and then they are stuck with a crappy product for the duration of the contract. Well, I’m here to say, there are other companies that have better products who will buy out your contracts.

Issues (This is all with the latest version of the product.):

  • Scans tax the CPU and hard drive so much that they either overheat or make the device unusable for the duration of the scan.
  • If the computer does not have network access a liveupdate process will run out of control and eventually grind the system to a halt.
  • Outlook attachments randomly blocked. They said most of their clients were seeing this problem and they asked us to ship them an example laptop. I said, fuck you, these are my laptop, you ship me a tech to look at it.
  • Application and Device Control blocks share viewing and printer viewing on remote sites. I couldn’t even figure out why this was even looking at this traffic let alone blocking it.
  • Cannot configure scans to scan one hard drive, only approved Symantec Locations. Go ahead, try to configure a scheduled scan to scan only drive C or something specific. You can’t, it just isn’t an option. What brain dead sloth designed this shit?
  • These are just a few of the issues we’ve recieved during a small pilot, we’ve stopped the pilot and deployment.

These issues make me look bad as a Security Engineer. I’m ready to switch to a different product to get the promised functionality. The concept is great, the execution is horrible. How the fuck did Gartner rate this highly? It’s undeployable!

I’m calling Sophos right now, McAfee kind of sucks. Maybe CA or TrendMicro have good enterprise solutions as well?

10 Awesome First Date Ideas

by on Jun.20, 2008, under Uncategorized

  1. Dinner Top Chef – For this first date idea you’ll want to pick a theme for your meal and you’ll go to a super market and you’ll each have a list of item categories you need to fill. You can buy anything and you have a cap on how much you can spend.
When you have purchased your items, your partner and you switch items and have to make a meal together. It’s can get competitive, but can also be a lot of fun. Try it out.
  2. Theme Parks – Show your inner child by riding all the rides at your local theme park!
  3. Comedy Club – Get your funny bone on with a comedy show, some even serve dinner.
  4. Walking Through A Park – I’ve done this on almost all of my dates, I love going to the park and looking at all the people and seeing the dogs getting walked and talking to the person I’m with.
  5. Movie and Dinner – This is always a winner, although I find it hard to talk through the movie, but cuddling is never a problem!
  6. Scavenger Hunt – This works if you have a digital camera. You have to work together to pick a place and the items you think might be there that you’ll need to photograph. The goal is to get all of the items photographed with each of you in the picture with the item. It’s a good ice-breaker and it shows what type of personality the other person has.
  7. Finding a Place Neither of you have gone… and going there together to explore!
  8. Visiting the Local Art Museum – This can always be fun, especially if you both have a fancy for art!
  9. Miniature Golf – Mini golf is always a fun and hilarious first date idea. If you can act like a goof with a tiny windmill thwarting your balls advances then you’ll have a great time.
  10. Trivia Night – This is good at your local bar or eatery. They often have trivia nights, you can take them there to work together and WIN!

Online games…

by on Jun.20, 2008, under Uncategorized

So I started playing city of heroes because I wanted something to do on my downtime at home. I figured it was more entertaining for me than watching Tv, plus my new laptop is awesome so it gives it a workout. Anyway… the game is fun. It does what I wanted it to do.

This weekend is BOOKED!

by on Jun.12, 2008, under Uncategorized

Except for Sunday, which might be a day of recovery, I’m booked this weekend!

Friday I have dinner with a friend and probably some fun stuff after that. MAYBE BOWLING!! WHICH I’M HORRIBLE AT!

Saturday, the day is pretty open, but at like 7ish I’m going to head over to some friends for a movie night and to meet some new Atlantans!

Sunday… we shall see. I’ve been so tired this week I might use it as a recovery day. Maybe do the gym, then veg out, or call up a friend and get coffee/tea! WHO KNOWS?!?!

*trying to get a ton of work done*

Trying Times

by on Jun.09, 2008, under Uncategorized

Well, I kind of started getting down yesterday afternoon. I just kept thinking about what is going on inside my head. It doesn’t make any sense. Let’s just say I had a crazy Saturday night.

I am not a drinker, but let me tell ya. I drank WAY too much on Saturday. I went to Blake’s and met up with some friends there. I was drunk by the time they arrived anyway, so it’s fine. I met someone there earlier. He has an interesting sense of humor, but a little off the wall for me. I’m much more laid back that this guy. I was glad when my friends showed up.

Lunch Saturday was great, but I already blogged about that. So go read that one!

Sunday was kind of relaxed, my friend Julie should NOT have gone out into the heat after drinking as much as she did Saturday night. And then skinny dipping and making out with two hotties! Slut! haha Just kidding, she doesn’t usually do that type of things (so she says ;) ).

I did not really parttake in too much of those festivities. I watched silently. I was bare for a moment or two, but then requested to get my undies back so that I didn’t feel so naked… hahaha

It was fun though. I’m a little more reserved than those folks. I’m sure Stephen is drinking himself into a coma or smoking enough pot to never see reality again, but that’s his choice. I love him, but I can’t help him and I don’t need to worry about him when he doesn’t care. His thoughts were always, but I’m not doing anything to you. Fucking ass, of course your doing it to me. Waiting up until 4am for you to get home, wondering if you got arrested, in a wreck, or whatever else because you get blackout drunk and then drive. STUPID!

I am sleeping better these days. Although, apparently I need more sleep, I’ve been exhausted!

Anywho, back to work for me! Lunch is over!

Going to see Kung Fu Panda Tonight!!

by on Jun.06, 2008, under Uncategorized

I’m going with my friends Katie and Julie to see Kung Fu Panda. I’m super excited, it looks really funny and entertaining. We are having dinner at Katie’s house and then running up to the mall to go see the movie!

Tomorrow will be great, I’m meeting two new people tomorrow. One for Lunch and one for mid afternoon something or other, I figure we’ll figure it out tomorrow.

Work was pretty good too, at 4pm my boss was like… “ESCAPE”!!! We all ran out of the office as fast as we could. Fun times.

Well, I’ll post about the movie when I get out…

Empty Feeling

by on Jun.04, 2008, under Uncategorized

It sucks losing someone, all I feel right now is just this sucky feeling inside. I know he’s moved on and is having a great time having fun and hanging out with all of his friends, meeting other people and the like.

I don’t move on as quickly from things. I am trying to meet people and who knows, but I still miss him. Apparently he thinks I don’t love him. Well I’ll always love him, but I can’t handle the drinking and drugs. That’s just too much for me, especially after what he did with no remorse. I can’t understand that. Oh well, there are people that share my interests that I’ll like out there somewhere. Time to find them!

Poker Tourney

by on Jun.03, 2008, under Uncategorized

So I went to this bar, partly to meet someone and strike up conversation. I totally didn’t strike up conversation, I’m beginning to think that we wouldn’t have anything in common anyway. So I played at his table, he seemed like an ok guy. I did ok for not having played before too much. I was fourth out on the table. So it was fun. I went home and chatted for a while online after that. I’m exhausted right now.
